ASHLAND, Maine (WAGM) – On 08 JANUARY 2025, Ashland Police in association with Maine State Animal Humane Agents executed a search warrant at a residence on Fenderson Road in Ashland where several domestic dogs were reportedly abandoned by their owner.
Three dogs were discovered abandoned in the residence where they had been deprived of food and water, living in their own excrement and urine, showing physical evidence of severe neglect.
The residence did not have heat or electricity, resulting in the animals enduring sub-zero temperatures and darkness for an extended period of time.
Exhaustive investigation revealed the owner of the dogs had moved out of the residence in September after power had been shut off, leaving the animals behind.
The animals were transported to Presque Isle for medical treatment, and were remanded to the Presque Isle Animal Shelter for care, pending court disposition.
Charged in this case was the dog’s owner, Miranda Burby, aged 38 years, of Ashland. Burby was cited for three counts of animal cruelty, and summoned to appear at Presque Isle District Court in March.
