Dog fighting for life after surviving Escambia County mobile home fire

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A dog desperately needs your help to stay alive.

Falcor is a 3-year-old shar pei with third-degree burns on nearly half his body. He was in an Escambia County mobile home fire on Jan. 5.

Three other dogs were also there. Two did not survive.

Now Falcor’s owner Elton Carroll Jr. is looking for help from the community.

“He’s my best friend, the only one I’ve got left,” Carroll said.

Carroll’s pit bulls woke him up around 10 p.m. to his house on fire.

“I went to grab the shar peis out,” said Carroll. “Everything was on fire, including in the kennel 15. I tore it apart, got them lose, got burnt in the process pretty good.”

His house and car on Shamrock Drive were a total loss. He also lost two dogs, but Falcor is still fighting.

“So on his left side, the burns start about right here,” Carroll said. “And it’s the entire side down to about his armpit, and then his entire left leg is burned.”

His right side is just as bad. He also has burns on his face and ears.

Overall, about 50% of his body has third-degree burns.

“He’s doing very well for where he’s at,” Carroll said. ” But he’s got some very extensive wounds.”

“Coastal Sunrise Animal Hospital is a miracle,” he added. “If I hadn’t had took him there… he wouldn’t be here right now.”

Between wound care, sedation and anesthesia — plus the treatments he hasn’t started yet like skin grafts — Falcor’s bills are at least $700-$1,000 a day. And it will continue to be that high for the next several weeks.

Carroll and the animal hospital are applying for grants and Falcor is receiving donations. But it’s an uphill battle.

“His prognosis I feel like is good — provided we can continue to get him the care he needs,” Carroll said. “He’s just going to need a lot of funding to cover all the costs of these procedures, cover him staying here. He just needs kind of around-the-clock care.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
