Mass. man grateful to first responders who saved self, dog from icy lake

THANKFUL. EMILY. WELL, MARIA GRATEFUL TO THE FIREFIGHTERS WHO HELPED RESCUE HIM AND HIS DOG. GRATEFUL TO THE DOCTORS AND VETERINARIANS WHO HELPED TONIGHT AT KOHBERGER IS GRATEFUL TO EVERYONE WHO STEPPED UP AND HELPED HIM AND HIS DOG TOMMY AFTER THE PAIR WENT CRASHING INTO THE ICY WATER AT LAKE WOBURN. THOSE GUYS WERE JUST AMAZING. ED BERGER WAS OUT FOR A WALK WITH HIS TWO DOGS SUNDAY EVENING WHEN ONE TOMMY RAN TOWARD LAKE WOBURN, CRASHING THROUGH THE ICE. I THINK, YOU KNOW, LIKE ANY DOG OWNER WOULD PROBABLY DO, I FELT LIKE I HAD TO DO SOMETHING. BERGER SHOUTED TO SOMEONE NEARBY TO CALL 911 AND WENT IN AFTER THE PUP, PUSHING A BOAT. HE COULD GET IN IF THE ICE GAVE OUT, BUT YOU KNOW IT DIDN’T GO AS PLANNED AND I FELL STRAIGHT THROUGH AND JUST PUSHED THE BOAT FORWARD AND DIDN’T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET IN IN TIME. EVEN KNOWING CREWS WERE ON THE WAY, TIME MOVED SLOWLY. IT WAS MINUTES, BUT IT FELT LIKE HOURS, YOU KNOW? I MEAN, TOMMY WAS SO CLOSE, YET HE WAS SO FAR WELLESLEY FIRE RACING TO THE LAKE. POLICE LAUNCHING THEIR DRONE OVERHEAD, KNOWING WITH THE PAIR IN THE ICY WATER, IT WAS A RACE AGAINST TIME. ANY MORE THAN 10 TO 15 MINUTES, YOU’RE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE. YOU CAN SEE TWO FIREFIGHTERS IN YELLOW WATER RESCUE SUITS TETHERED TO THE SHORE, CRAWLING ON THE ICE. GRABBING BERGER FIRST AND HOISTING HIM OUT. MINUTES LATER, GOING BACK FOR TOMMY, SAFELY BRINGING IN THE DOG. AND THIS IS TOMMY. YEAH. TONIGHT, BERGER AND HIS PUP ARE HOME, THANKFUL TO THE FIRST RESPONDERS WHO STEPPED UP. THEY ABSOLUTELY SAVED THE DAY. AND THEY WERE. THEY WERE TRUE HEROES FOR FOR DOING WHAT THEY DID. NOW, BERGER TELLS ME HE’S ALSO INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL TO THE EMERGENCY VET TEAM THAT TREATED TOMMY FOR HYPOTHERMIA, AS WELL AS THE DOCTORS AND NURSES AT NEWTON-WELLESLEY WHO CHECKED HIM OUT. HE IS CREDITING ALL OF THOSE FIRST RESPONDERS FOR GETTING HIM AND HIS DOG BACK HOME SAFELY TONIGHT.

Wellesley man grateful to first responders who rescued self, dog from icy lake disaster: ‘They were true heroes’

Ed Berger was out for a walk in Wellesley with his two dogs Sunday evening when disaster struck. One of Berger’s pups, Tommy, ran toward nearby Lake Waban and crashed through the ice. “I think like any dog owner would probably do, I felt like I had to do something,” Berger said. He shouted to someone nearby to call 911, and went in after Tommy, pushing a boat he could get into, if the ice happened to cave in. “But you know, it didn’t go as planned,” Berger said. “I fell straight through and just pushed the boat forward. I didn’t have the opportunity to get in on time.”Berger knew emergency crews were on the way, but time moved slowly. “It was minutes, but it felt like hours. I mean, Tommy was so close, yet he was so far,” Berger said. Wellesley fire raced to the lake, and police launched a drone overhead, knowing with Berger and Tommy in the icy water, it would be a race against time. “Any more than 10, 15 minutes, you’re in serious trouble,” Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Corda said. In drone video, you can see two firefighters in yellow water rescue suits tethered to the shore, crawling on the ice, grabbing Berger first and hoisting him out. Minutes later, they went back for Tommy, safely bringing him back to shore. Hours later, Berger and his dog are home safely and thankful to the first responders who stepped up. “They absolutely saved the day, and they were true heroes for what they did,” Berger said.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
