RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. (WBTV) – Multiple dogs were seized from a Rutherford County home after reports came in that they had been abandoned.
The dogs were taken by Rutherford County Animal Control on Sunday, Jan. 12 – just two days after snow and ice blanketed much of Western North Carolina.
Deputies said that the dogs were taken after Road Patrol deputies and Criminal Investigations Division members took out a search warrant for the property.
Since then, rescue organizations have stepped forward to help the animals. At least one dog died before the others were seized, according to volunteers.
An investigation is underway, deputies said.
