The fire at the Gobel Avenue SE home is currently under investigation.
CANTON, Ohio — The Canton Fire Department says three people and two dogs were able to escape from a burning home in the early morning hours of Monday.
Crews were called to the 500 block of Gobel Avenue SE just after 2 a.m. for a report of a structure fire in a one and a half story house.
“On arrival crews found heavy flames on the front porch extending to the interior of the house,” Canton fire officials noted in a release. “There was some difficulty fighting the fire initially because of downed power lines.”
Officials say before firefighters arrived, two adult men, one woman and their two dogs exited the house. The family’s cat was missing and “could not be accounted for.”
“The fire caused extensive damage to the structure, it is unlikely the home can be re-occupied,” Canton fire officials added in its release, estimating that the blaze caused just over $57,000 in damage.
No one was injured in the fire, which is currently under investigation.
