WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Watertown’s flower memorial library hosted some unusual and popular guests on Saturday.
A team of therapy dogs. Kids had the chance to get up close and personal with the pups, petting them, reading to them, and even making crafts based on them. Those dogs and their owners were part of “Groot’s Canine” a North Country based dog training service. Lead Trainer Casey Scharsich says she hopes the visit taught kids about the importance of therapy animals and quelled any potential fear of dogs. the kids seemed to love it.
“I love doing it. This is my passion. I absolutely love seeing the smiles on kids faces. We also go to Nursing homes, we’re hoping to go to Samaritan eventually. Right now we’re sticking to Nursing homes. I just love seeing the smiles on everybody’s faces. The joy it brings, and the dog brings. It’s pretty great,” says Casey Scharsich.
This was the first time the library hosted service dogs but given the event’s success with more than 100 kids showing up, we’re told it could become a common occurrence.
