San Diego Humane Society takes in nearly 40 dogs from Pasadena to free shelter space amid wildfires

The organization reminds pet owners to have an evacuation plan for their families and their pets.

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Humane Society sent more crews up to Pasadena Thursday to help out with the Eaton wildfire that continues to burn.

Crews are bringing dogs from the Pasadena shelter back to San Diego. Wednesday night, crews returned with 11 dogs. Thursday they returned with 28 dogs and one kitten.

These are dogs that were already up for adoption in Pasadena. By bringing dogs to San Diego, they are freeing up shelter space for pets that are displaced due to the fire.

“The fires in Los Angeles are devastating,” said Jordan Frey, Marketing Manager for the San Diego Humane Society. “We know they’re affecting thousands of people. The Pasadena Humane Society is seeing hundreds of animals burned and evacuated from their homes coming to them for care right now. We were grateful to step in and help when we got that call they needed assistance.”

The dogs brought to the Oceanside campus are all different breeds, including German Shepards as well as a Beagle-mix.

They will be up for adoption soon.

The San Diego Humane Society is already overcrowded with dogs looking for homes.

As of 4:29 a.m. Thursday, Cal Fire reported the fire had grown to 10,600 acres and was 0% contained.

Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger said between 200 to 500 structures had been destroyed, and another 13,000 structures were at risk. More than 32,500 residents were placed under evacuation orders in the nearby regions including Pasadena and Altadena, she said.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
