In an unusual turn of events, officials from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) resorted to using handbags to throw water on active fires. Firefighters battling the Los Angeles wildfires are facing significant challenges as they work to contain approximately 27,000 acres of burning land. An internet personality Collin Rugg took to X to share a video of firefighters using handbags to douse the flames, criticising the fire department’s decision to fight fires with women’s purses.

A series of wildfires that started Tuesday night has now reached Hollywood Hills of Altadena, Pasadena and Pacific Palisades. According to reports, five individuals have been killed and over 2000 buildings have been destroyed as major fires swept across the region. The Los Angeles wildfire is among the costliest natural disaster the United States has ever faced so far, reported AccuWeather Inc.

The report suggested that the economic losses and damave around Santa Monica and Malibu are expected to be between $52 billion and $57 billion.

A large portion of the city was placed under evacuation orders, according to Pasadena Fire Chief Chad Augustin. Newsom took to X to state that more than 1,400 firefighters from California had been sent in to tackle the fires. “Emergency officials, firefighters and first responders are all hands on deck through the night to do everything possible to protect lives,” he wrote.

Notably, six wildfires are currently raging across Los Angeles County, with the Pacific Palisades and Sylmar neighborhoods among the hardest hit. As of Wednesday, the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Hurst Fire, Olivas Fire, Lidia Fire, and Woodley Fire remain active, with none of them contained.
