EAST PALESTINE — East Palestine junior Landyn Cope arrived Tuesday.
Cope scored a career-high 17 points on five three-pointers and grabbed eight rebounds in leading the Bulldogs past Leetonia, 56-46, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.
East Palestine, playing without third-leading scorer RJ May, Palestine improves to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the EOAC, while Leetonia drops to 3-7 and 0-5 in league play.
Cope paced four Bulldogs in double figures. Owen Jurjavcic totaled 12 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and three blocks. Drew Bycroft collected 11 points, five rebounds and five assists. Kyler Bourne carried the Bulldogs early and finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Clark Rutledge also played well in the starting lineup.
Leetonia held a 14-9 lead in the first quarter.
Cope brought the Bulldogs back, hitting a three-pointer to tie the game at 16-16 with 5:21 left in the second quarter. He had consecutive three-pointers in a 22-second span to put the Bulldogs ahead 26-20 with 1:30 remaining in the first half.
East Palestine built its biggest lead at 44-30 in the third quarter before the Bears rallied.
Leetonia pulled within four at 44-40 and 46-42. A Dylan Brown three-pointer cut the Bulldog lead to 50-45 with 2:32 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Cope scored off an offensive rebound with 39 seconds left to raise the lead to 54-45.
Dylan Brown and Dylan Johns paced Leetonia with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
East Palestine also won the junior varsity game, 53-14, as Kealin Simon scored 11 points and Tanner Morrow 10.
Both teams are scheduled to play Friday with East Palestine at Southern and Leetonia hosting Lisbon.

Marlington 55, Salem 36
ALLIANCE — Marlington finished what it started Tuesday.
The Dukes outscored Salem 15-2 in the first quarter and 22-10 in the fourth quarter on the way to a 55-36 victory over Salem.
Marlington improves to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Alliance and Carrollton are tied for first at 3-1, followed by Marlington and Minerva at 2-2.
Salem drops to 4-7 and 1-3.
Sam Yoder topped Marlington with a game-high 20 points. Dylan Heatherington added 13 points and Cam Evanich 10.
Cletis Monroy paced Salemw ith 13 points.
Salem travels to West Branch on Friday. Both teams are 1-3 in EBC play after each dropped two games in the past five days.
Salem won the junior varsity game, 45-30. Jack Andres led the Quakers with nine points. Owen Davidson-Chuck and Weston Mango each had eight.

Carrollton 48, West Branch 45
BELOIT — Carrollton opened up a nine-point halftime lead and beat West Branch, 48-45, in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Tuesday.
Carrollton improves to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the EBC, tied for first place with Alliance.
Tayvion Johnson led Carrollton with 15 points, followed by Bryce Lonca and Jayven Johnson with 10 apiece.
West Branch lost its fifth in a row to drop to 3-7 and 1-3 in the EBC.
Cooper Anderson paced WEst Branch with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Camden Lane collected10 points and three steals ,Joey Jackson nine points, Jeremiah Thomas five assists and five rebounds and Caden West grabbed five rebounds.
West Branch won the junior varsity game, 51-29, as Chase Gee scored 10 points and Luke Curry eight.
West Branch will host Salem on Friday, while Carrollton entertains Minerva on Saturday.
