Pet business worker accused of ‘viciously’ kicking dog that later died in Granville

A Pataskala woman pleaded not guilty last month after police allege she beat a dog that later died from injuries suffered at Bath and Biscuits in Granville.

Alexis VanKannel, 22, pleaded not guilty Dec. 24 to two counts of prohibition against companion animals in Licking County Common Pleas Court. Deputies arrested VanKannel Nov. 25 on suspicion of animal abuse after she arrived for her shift at Bath and Biscuits, according to a criminal complaint.

The Advocate left a voicemail seeking comment from Bath and Biscuits but had not heard back as of Monday afternoon. The business offers pet daycare, boarding and grooming services, according to its website.

Deputies are accusing VanKannel of “viciously kicking a dog” Nov. 20 during her shift at the pet care facility. The complaint states surveillance footage shows VanKannel kicking a golden retriever repeatedly and pulling on a leash around the dog’s neck in the daycare area.

Deputies say the dog ran from VanKannel and began to limp before she kicked it again multiple times in another room. VanKannel stopped kicking the dog at one point but did so again after it collapsed, according to the complaint.

Facility staff took the dog to Granville Veterinary Clinic where it died from its injuries Nov. 23. The clinic’s vet reported liver damage and internal bleeding as causes of death for Noelle, deputies say.

According to deputies, VanKannel told them during her arrest that she had “no good reason for why I did it” and that “life has been bad.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
