A hilarious video showcasing a bulldog’s clever reaction to a robot vacuum cleaner has gone viral on TikTok
The video was posted by Bob and Flodie (@twobulldog), a TikTok account following the antics of two “lazy bulldogs.” It has amassed over 205,000 views since it was shared on December 23.
A caption shared with the post reads: “When your bulldog decides to outsmart you.”
In the video, a dog—who is an English bulldog, according to a hashtag shared in the caption—is seen resting at the foot of a chair with his belly on the floor.
A robot vacuum, which appears to be a Roomba, according to a hashtag in the caption, is seen moving towards the dog. When the vacuum gets close, the bulldog appears to lick the top of it and the machine is paused, much to the amusement of viewers.
The video’s text overlay reads: “When your dog has worked out how to turn the hoover off, smart a**.”
Newsweek has contacted @twobulldog for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
The bulldog’s response in the viral clip is not surprising because dogs are able to solve complex problems and are more like humans and other higher primates than previously thought, according to psychologist and lead canine researcher Stanley Coren from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada. Coren spoke about “how dogs think” at the American Psychological Association’s annual convention back in 2009.
“Their stunning flashes of brilliance and creativity are reminders that they may not be Einsteins but are sure closer to humans than we thought,” explained Coren at the time, who believes a dog’s mental abilities are close to a human child aged from 2 to 2.5 years old according to several behavioral measures.
Based on four studies that Coren examined, which looked at “how dogs solve spatial problems by modeling human or other dogs’ behavior using a barrier type problem,” the psychologist said that our canine friends can learn how to operate mechanisms, such as latches and simple machines.

Sky commented: “omg…they are just hilarious,” while Spud The Bulldog humorously added: “He’s like that noisy hoover is disturbing my nap times” to which the original poster replied: “That’s for sure.”
TikTokTrain posted: “Hahahah he outsmarts his humans, lol” with @twobulldog agreeing, “That’s correct. hahaha.”
Heather wrote: “He’s done, had enough of that noise today,” while kimmigirl77 remarked “Bro is sooo over it.”
