LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Attention dog owners—it’s time to license your furry friends. All dogs must be licensed by January 1, 2025, or their owners could face fines of up to $500 per unlicensed dog.
License fees go toward supporting animal welfare and public safety. Officials stress the importance of keeping your pet licensed, not just to avoid penalties but for their safety as well.
“It’s important to make sure you have a dog license because, first off, if your dog gets out—I know people will say ‘my dog doesn’t leave the house or it’s in a fenced yard’—but there’s always those instances where they get out. Our phone number is on the back of the tag, and with the identifying number on the front, we’re able to look up where that dog belongs,” said Melony Jones, administrative assistant at Luzerne County licensing department.
Licenses, which are valid for one year, can be obtained online, through the mail, or at county licensing offices.
