BOSTON (WFXT/CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – A woman was seriously injured after being mauled by dogs “as soon as they saw her.”
A woman was severely injured in a dog attack on Brunswick Street in Dorchester on Thursday, leaving her family and coworkers questioning the response of the dog owners.
The victim, identified only as Rosalia, was mauled by dogs at a home where she and a coworker, who did not want to be named, were working as home aides. The coworker told WFXT that Rosalia had visited the home before without incident.
“But today it was different. They just attacked her as soon as they saw her,” the coworker told the station. “My mom was lucky enough to get out of the situation. She ran away asking for help. She tried to help her, but she knew that if she jumped on them, they would have hurt her too.”
Rosalia’s family reported that she sustained serious injuries to her leg and may require surgery. Police told the station that a tourniquet was applied at the scene. The family and coworker expressed frustration over the dog owners’ delayed response.
“You see the dogs running. doing this and you still don’t come out until after the accident happened and she was obviously screaming asking for help. The neighbors came out before the owner did,” the coworker told the outlet.
The dog owners declined to be interviewed, but at least four dogs were observed on the property Thursday night. Police informed the victim’s family that a pit bull was believed to be primarily responsible for the attack.
“I still see them there. My mom told me those are the dogs not to get near them. She doesn’t even want to see them,” the coworker added when speaking to WFXT.
Boston police and animal control are investigating the incident. Meanwhile, friends and family of Rosalia, a mother and grandmother, are hoping for her recovery.
“My mom too, she’s very traumatized from the issues. She’s just been crying and so, it’s really hard for us,” the coworker told the outlet.
