PARLIER, Calif. — A Parlier animal advocate reached out to KMPH FOX26 with hopes of a Christmas miracle.
She says the Parlier pound has not euthanized dogs since 2020.
But that may soon change, if they can’t get some adopted.

They are hoping with this story that they can spread the work and get many of the animals adopted.
Sergeant Dan Barcellos, with the Parlier Police Department says, they could roughly hold anywhere from about 16-20 dogs at the department’s animal shelter.
Right now, he says they have 19.
Inside the animal pound? 16 dogs that are currently living in the kennels.
Three of them are now housed over at a non-profit that dedicates its mission to help animals called ‘Bambi’s Army Rescue Canines’ in Parlier.
The president of the organization Michelle Lopez says she takes in several dogs when they are crowded at the pound at her location.
She says she can only house up to 10 little dogs at her animal rescue.
“This is a holding facility. Just temporary until we could get them adopted or sent to other no-kill rescues,” she said.
Luckily, she says Parlier’s animal pound has been a no-kill shelter since 2020.
But that could change because more animals are coming in, than out.
Both Lopez, Barcellos, and the city’s mayor are now begging the community to help stop that from happening.
Lopez said, “So, we’re just asking please… We’re reaching out to the public to please help us.”
Mayor Alma Beltran said, “We haven’t euthanized in a very long time because of her program that she has. We’ve been successfully getting them out but now with all the cities having the same issues, we are facing potential euthanasia, and we don’t want to do that because, you know, we want them to have a home. We don’t want to put a perfectly healthy dog down for just because there’s no room for them.”
Beltran says she knows current times are tough economically, so they are grateful Parlier PD is waiving the adoption fees.
“Of course, we try our best at all costs to keep them from being euthanized. So we do need the community’s help so that we can get those animals rehoused and rehomed,” Barcellos said.
