DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – A Davenport man has been charged after police found two dogs and five 1-day-old puppies in a vehicle.
Police said Kasey Berkenbile, 41, kept the animals in the vehicle because they didn’t get along with other dogs in the house.
Davenport police arrived at 514 Oak St. on Tuesday night about a wanted person in a vehicle.
When police arrived, they found a parked vehicle with the dogs inside along with a space heater, which had a power cord running from a home.
Police said no water was found inside the vehicle, and the adult dogs appeared to be severely malnourished with their ribs showing.
Berkenbile was not home when the police arrived.
Residents of the house told police the vehicle was sitting there for two days. They did not know how often the dogs were let out of the vehicle.
Berkenbile is charged with seven counts of animal neglect and seven counts of abandonment, according to arrest affidavits.
