BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – The Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center therapy dog, Linus, has died.
Mini Goldendoodle Linus was four years old when he was hit by a car, cutting his life and career as a therapy dog short.
“How do you replace something that was so wonderful?” said Paula Condol, executive director of the Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and Linus’ owner.
The CAC might at some point look for another therapy dog, but they’ll have some pretty big paws to fill.
Linus started working at the Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center in January of 2021. He was well-known throughout the community for his social media presence on the Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center pages, and for the last three years, he spent his days spreading comfort to children and families seeking services from the organization and lighting up rooms.
“I think one of his biggest traits is that he was just always there for others, like, he really read the room. He could tell when people were happy, when they’re sad. He was just a great comfort to the kids and the families,” said Condol.
Linus impacted the lives of everyone he came across at the center, including the staff he worked with.
“There was a staff sitting on her chair, just cuddling with Linus, and I said, ‘Are you okay?’ and she said, ‘I’m just having a hard day and I just need him,‘’ said Condol.
Linus’ death leaves a hole in the hearts of many at the Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center, but he will always be remembered for his work and his love of toys and treats.
Linus also provided comfort to law enforcement who came to the Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center after tough days at work.
