A 35-year-old Donna man was booked into the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center Wednesday on a warrant charging him with animal cruelty for fatally shooting two dogs in August.
A probable cause affidavit for Victor Miguel Ramon said the incident happened on Aug. 6 at around 9:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of Adams Drive in Donna.
A Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputy made contact with a man who said he heard gunshots outside of his home.
“He looked and found his small black and white dog dead in front of his home, with a gunshot wound to the chest area,” the affidavit stated.
He told the deputy that he also found a second black dog dead in his backyard with a gunshot wound to its shoulder area, adding that Ramon, who lived down the street, shot his dogs.
“Victor advised Deputies that he found the dogs killing his chickens on his property,” the affidavit stated. “Victor stated that the dog ran off his property and he pursued the dogs on the roadway where he shot the black and white dog with his .22 caliber rifle.”
He remains jailed on a $35,000 bond.
