A man trying to reason with his Shih Tzu over his less-than-convenient sleeping positionhas left internet viewers in stitches.
The dog’s owner, who uses the social-media handle @miketheshihtzu, shared a now-viral video where he pleads with Mike to sleep vertically rather than horizontally in bed. The humorous footage has garnered over 34,900 likes and more than 423,900 views. “Mike, we have to have a talk,” the owner fittingly captioned the video.
In the clip, the owner explains to his pooch that lying stretched out sideways takes up too much space.
“Mommy and daddy are crunched way over in the side here. And you got a whole bunch of space here,” he tells Mike.
The man then attempts to demonstrate, using hand gestures, how Mike could adjust his sleeping style. “Next time, when you see mommy and daddy sleeping, we’re sleeping this way. I don’t sleep this way,” he says, stroking the dog to emphasize his point.

The Pros and Cons of Sharing Your Bed with a Dog
Sleeping with pets can be a comforting experience for many.
Healthline says that sharing a bed with your dog may reduce stress and enhance the bond between owner and pet. However, it can also impact sleep quality, especially if your animal takes up more than their fair share of space.
To ensure comfort, experts suggest maintaining good hygiene by washing bedding regularly and setting boundaries for your dog’s sleeping habits.
How to Encourage a Lengthwise Sleeping Position
Changing a dog’s sleeping position can be challenging but not impossible. As outlined by Animed Direct, patience and consistent training are key.
Start by gently guiding your dog into the desired position and using verbal cues or treats to encourage compliance.
A supportive dog bed placed parallel to yours might also help redirect them into a more manageable position.
Social-media users were charmed by Mike’s antics and shared their own relatable stories in the comments.
“In his defense, he’s sleeping with his feet pointing in the same direction yours are!” posted one viewer.
“I sleep like a question mark to accommodate my pug,” commented another dog-lover.
“My dog blocked me after sending this to him,” wrote a commenter named Victoria.
“I am here for the gentle pawrenting,” added another user.
