ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A child is dead after a family dog attack in one Eastern Carolina county.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says that the attack happened on Friday just before 3 p.m. at a home on Harris Creek Road.
Deputies arrived and found that an 8-year-old boy had bite marks on his neck.
We’re told that Emergency Medical Services performed life-saving measures on the scene before taking the child to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune. The child died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Investigators say that the child and a sibling were letting the dogs out of the home to use the bathroom when the attack happened.
Deputies say according to the family the two dogs, who are Pit Bull/Great Dane mix, did not show signs of aggressive behaviors prior to the attack.
The sheriff’s office says neither their agency nor Onslow County Animal Control have had interactions with the dogs.
Both dogs have been quarantined by animal control.
The case remains an open investigation.
