11 Dogs Set for Fresh Start After Otter Tail County Rescue

The animals were removed from the backyard of a property that had been known to house dogs in unsanitary conditions.

FERGUS FALLS, MN – The 7 cocker spaniels, senior Pomeranian, and 3 poodles that were scooped up by the Humane Society of Otter Tail County on November 11th hardly even resembled dogs at the time.

“You know, you do look at them and go, ‘Wow, there’s a dog under all that matting,’” said Jaclyn Keenan, the shelter manager.

The dogs were being fed, but other than that, the lack of attention to basic needs was shocking. They all had extremely matted and overgrown coats – some with feces caked in. They lacked basic vaccinations, and, of course, none of them had been spayed or neutered.

This made intake extra challenging on top of the overcrowding caused at an already-packed shelter.

But the Humane Society put out a call for assistance on Facebook – and the community answered with aplomb.

“We’ve raised about 10 thousand dollars for the medical issues for these dogs, and that’s all from private donors,” said Chris Cannon, executive director of the Humane Society.

All 11 should be available for adoption in early December, and Cannon says they’ve had multiple offers on each one, which means it’s now just a process of finding which home is the best fit for each dog.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the removal of the animals and is actively investigating the situation, but refused to comment as of press time.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
