The Ubisoft series Watch Dogs has received a new sequel, but not in the way that many fans would have expected.
The first Watch Dogs was released by Ubisoft in 2014, and perhaps unfairly, it was labelled a GTA V competitor by some. Sure, there were similarities, such as an open world to explore, cars to pinch, side activities, and people to beat up, but there can only be one Grand Theft Auto.
Check out the Watch Dogs trailer below!
“You play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and former thug, whose criminal past led to a violent family tragedy,” reads the synopsis of Watch Dogs. “Now on the hunt for those who hurt your family, you’ll be able to monitor and hack all who surround you by manipulating everything connected to the city’s network.”
Watch Dogs would later receive two sequels, the first in 2016 and the second with Watch Dogs: Legion in 2020, set in a dystopian but very accurately built map of London. Sadly, that would be the last we’d see of the series, with many fans awaiting a triumphant return … which may have just arrived.
As spotted by IGN, Watch Dogs: Legion has received a surprise sequel but it’s not a video game.
Instead, it’s an audiobook called Watch Dogs: Truth, yet this audiobook will be a bit different from most because it will be the first interactive audiobook on Amazon’s Audible platform.
Set after the events of Watch Dogs: Legion and taking inspiration from old-school ‘choose your own adventure’ books, Watch Dogs: Truth will allow listeners to make choices at the end of each chapter that will help change the direction of the story.
“Listeners of this thrilling story will once again join the fight for truth whilst guided by the self-aware AI, Bagley, as they make decisions at the end of each episode, with choices that shape the hacking collective’s next move, profoundly impact character relationships and ultimately, the success of the resistance effort,” the description of Watch Dogs: Truth reads.
“Across the series, listeners will have the fate of the city in their own hands, as the government’s cyber intelligence force (SIRS) orchestrates a sinister campaign of message manipulation and fake news, which leads DedSec to fight back using its revered tactics to battle against alarming disinformation.”
Watch Dogs: Truth is exclusive to Audible and is available now for those who subscribe to the service at no extra cost. It’s also Dolby Atmos compatible for those that appreciate enhanced audio goodness.
As for the video game series, hopefully, Ubisoft will announce a new game sooner rather than later.
