A dead dog was found wrapped up in bin bags inside a suitcase at a property in Gainsborough. The owner of a local pet rescue group, Michelle Page, says she was called to a property on Ashcroft Road on Sunday, September 8 after someone reported a dead dog outside.
Michelle “felt sick” when she arrived at around 11pm and discovered a dog which had been dead for some time and “tossed out like rubbish”. She said: “The police came out and we went in the house because we knew the owner had other dogs and cats.
“There were no other pets in the house but it was disgusting. There was dog faeces everywhere. The dog had been dead for quite a while as you could see all the bone. It was badly decomposed.
“I’m a big animal lover and seeing that dog like that really upset me. It was quite traumatic. I’ve got Staffies myself.”
Michelle said the RSPCA told her they couldn’t do anything about the dead dog but would be looking into another dog that the owner had. A spokesperson for the RSPCA told Lincolnshire Live: “Unfortunately we are unable to discuss complaints about specific people and what action may have been taken for legal reasons.
“We will always look into animal welfare concerns reported to us and where necessary investigate. We are so grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering to us and we would like to reassure people we will always look into and, if necessary, investigate any complaints made to us about animal welfare.
“Anyone with information can contact the RSPCA in confidence on 0300 1234 999 or the police.”
A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We received a call at 11.07pm on September 8 in relation to reports of a suspicious suitcase having been found in the garden of an abandoned property in Ashcroft Road, Gainsborough. Subsequent investigation confirmed that a deceased dog was found within the suitcase.
“The details taken from the identity chip found on the dog have been passed to the RSPCA who will now commence their investigation.”
