BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Traveling can be a fun and enjoyable experience, but it can also be stressful and bring feelings of anxiety for some people. To help bring some comfort to travelers, the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport has a Traveler Loving Canines (TLC) Comfort Dog program to help put you at ease.
The TLC Comfort Dog program currently has a team of 10 certified animals that range from therapy dogs to retired racing dogs. These friendly and cuddly dogs add a calm, loving touch to the travel experience. It’s a nice touch for those flying during the busy holiday travel season.
“We know that dogs can make everything better. These loveable dogs and their handlers are volunteering their time to bring comfort to travelers,” said airport representatives.
The TLC teams are trained and certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs to offer comfort to travelers who are receptive to interacting with the animals. These animals are working dogs that can help in a variety of situations where stress and anxiety are present.
The therapy dogs come to the terminal at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport to mix and mingle with visitors. Petting of the dogs is allowed and encouraged if you need a little serotonin boost.
The TLC program was brought to Birmingham in November 2022.
