LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Animal Foundation is seeing hundreds of animals being brought in daily with most of the dogs not having a microchip.
“That happens a lot of times during the Summer, the Summer is our busiest months but for some reason, this year and last year, it’s continuing into fall, we are almost at Thanksgiving, it’s cold outside and we still seeing over 100 animals a day coming into the shelter,” Kelsey Pizzi, the communications manager for The Animal Foundation said.
Pizzi said more than 70 percent of the dogs brought in, come in without anything to link them back to their owners.
“The micro-chipping numbers are honestly staggering, I pulled the numbers for this year and 78 percent of the lost dogs that came into the shelter did not have micro-chip, collar, or tag,” Pizzi said.
To support the nonprofit and help with overcrowding, she said people can volunteer at the shelter, donate pet supplies, and foster an animal.

“You can take them out as short as a few hours to give them a good exercise and break or you can take them as long as a couple of weeks, if you do take them for a couple of weeks, we provide food and anything else you might need,” Chance Hearn said.
Hearn said to become a foster, the person must be a local resident, at least 18 years old and if pets are already in the home, they must be up to date on their vaccines.
