Dog owners who find themselves at public parks might want to keep an eye out for Boise Parks and Recreation. According to a local discussion, Boise Parks and Recreation has increased patrols and has been issuing fines to ensure compliance with the leash laws. The current penalty for having a dog off-leash at the park is a non-appealable $100 ticket plus an additional $60 if the dog lacks Boise registration tags.

Camel’s Back Park has long been a favorite spot for dog owners, but the uptick in patrols and fines has generated mixed reactions in the community. Some residents are supportive, citing the importance of maintaining safety and cleanliness in public spaces. Especially for those who have younger children, people who aren’t big fans of dogs, or even those with dogs who don’t do well around other dogs.

However, others argue that the timing of these efforts feels excessive, especially when ticketing occurs on quiet, rainy mornings rather than during peak usage hours when off-leash issues might be more disruptive.

I think those who have dogs and want to take them to the park just go to the designated dog parks. There are plenty of them throughout Boise, and as someone with three dogs, I’m more likely to take them somewhere where I know people can’t complain about my dog being off its leash.
