Two dogs survive tragic plane crash thanks to heroic rescue efforts by animal shelter

New details are emerging from the fatal plane crash Sunday in Greene County.

The Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley (ASSV) released a statement Tuesday, “mourning the loss of their friend, colleague, and fellow animal rescue enthusiast, Seuk Kim.”

Seuk tragically lost his life on the evening of November 24, 2024, when the plane he was piloting crashed in Greene County. Seuk was volunteering his time and his talent to transport three dogs that had been rescued from a euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter in the south on their “freedom flight” to the Albany Airport, for intake at the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley.

Two of the three dogs on Seuk’s “freedom flight” miraculously survived the crash, according to the shelter. Those two dogs were taken to veterinary clinics in the Capital Region Monday afternoon to receive emergency medical attention, under the supervision of ASSV.

Whiskey a four month-old male puppy lab mix, suffered two broken legs and will undergo surgeries this week at Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, CT.

Pluto, a one and a half-year old male yorkie/terrier mix, is currently being evaluated to determine the extent of his injuries, the shelter official says.

A third puppy named Lisa, was killed in the plane crash.

ASSV says they will be overseeing the two surviving dogs’ medical recoveries, and when they’re ready, will help them find loving ‘furever’ homes.

For now, our thoughts remain with our friend, Seuk, who leaves behind a wife and three children in Virginia,” ASSV Executive Director Maggie Pryor said. “He also leaves behind a strong network of animal rescue enthusiasts, including other “freedom flight” pilots and animal shelter staff members, who all admired his volunteering spirit. Over the years, Seuk helped to save the lives of hundreds of animals who would have otherwise been euthanized due to overcrowding at animal shelters.

ASSV will be sharing information on how the community can donate to help cover the medical costs of the two surviving puppies and will share that information once details are finalized.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
