Hysterics at “drama dog” hoping strangers will save him after every walk

A dog dramatically expressing how he felt about returning home after a walk has left viewers of the TikTok video laughing.

In an October 24 TikTok video posted to the account @joey_how_u_doinn, Joey the golden retriever was enjoying a walk with his owner when he realized his fun in the sun was nearing an end. They were taking the route home, and since walks are often a dog’s favorite part of their day, Joey didn’t want it to end. In his mind, he could go on forever.

Joey needed to point out the injustice of being forced back home instead of continuing his walk. He stopped in the middle of the street, lay down and stayed put. No amount of pulling would get him up. When the owner pulled on the leash, Joey tried sticking his paws on the ground to keep him from moving forward, but that didn’t work.

The owner called him a “drama dog” because Joey put on quite the show for the whole neighborhood to see. His eyes made it look as if he was being dragged against his will back into a toxic home. He was ever so hopeful a stranger would step in and save him.

But, of course, he didn’t need saving. He just wanted his walk to go on forever.

This wouldn’t be the first dog to pull out the waterworks when it doesn’t get its way. Several viewers said in the comments section their dogs protest on walks too. And it’s not just golden retrievers or Labradors. Owners of beagles and pit bulls chimed in and said they are dramatic culprits too.

“My dog LOVES to act like we never feed her or pay any attention to her when people come over. She will sit by her “empty” food dish and give puppy eyes like she is STARVING,” said one TikTok user.

Another wrote: “Labs r drama divas…simply adorable characters tho’. Floofy bundle of happiness.”

While the immediate thought might be that your dog just doesn’t want to go inside, owners should still be on the lookout for other reasons for their walking protest.

An article from North Carolina’s Guilford Jamestown Veterinarian Hospital gave potential reasons dogs why might stop walking: joint pain, injury, fear, inadequate leash training, tiredness, extreme weather, an uncomfortable collar or leash, satisfaction with the level of exercise or too long walks.
