It’s no secret that dogs are so much more than furry friends, but sometimes, they can be literal guardian angels. Whether their love pulls you through a tough time in life or their presence keeps you safe from harm, there are many ways that dogs can touch our hearts and improve our lives. Just ask one hiker named Erica!
After receiving mysterious directions to a new hiking trail, Erica and her friend were hesitant to start their adventure. That is–until a friend and guardian angel in the shape of a dog came along! Roscoe is a local dog who frequently roams the area, but on that day, he became so much more than a hiking partner.
For everyone’s privacy, she chose not to disclose where they went hiking, but the November 15 video has touched 20 million hearts so far.
What a sweet story! This outdoor dog was in the right place at the right time, almost like he had planned it. Some viewers speculated that this pup regularly hangs out at this spot (which could be the case) but there’s no denying the magic and serendipity of this brief encounter.

“I bet he thinks he’s volunteering to walk humans in his spare time,” joked a commenter named Jessica. No kidding! Roscoe has likely had more adventures than just this one with Erica, but there’s no way to know for sure. I love what @lindsey4020 suggested: “He should have a QR code on his tag so everyone whose day is made better because of Roscoe can send in pictures and stories.” Wouldn’t that be precious?

Although this mixed breed dog‘s new fans don’t know what he’s been up to, Erica (who is a loving cat owner herself) felt compelled to reach out to Roscoe’s owner via the phone number on his collar’s ID tag. She explained more in a much-anticipated update video.
Questions are starting to be answered! It sounds like Erica is on a quest to unearth this boy’s full story, and there’s no doubt that her viewers will thank her.
Hiking With Dogs
Erica and her friend didn’t know they’d be hiking with a new canine friend, but those who are preparing to hike with dogs should take a few extra precautions. Besides packing a dog leash, harness, portable water dish, and plenty of waste bags, you should also do your research and consider your dog’s well-being.
Is the weather appropriate for a hike? Is your dog in good health? These are all questions you should ask before taking off on a journey together. Clearly, dogs like Roscoe are up for the adventure!
