Officers conducting a welfare check on a reportedly suicidal person in Windsor Locks Wednesday found a dog suffering from multiple stab wounds to the neck and body, according to police.
The dog was found after police received a call about an emotionally disturbed person on N. Main Street around 1 p.m.
When officers arrived at a residence they found a woman with no clothes on with cuts to the face. Police said the same person had earlier ran onto N. Main Street while naked in an agitated state. Police also noticed blood on the walls inside the residence and the woman was asked to sit so the injuries could be treated by police. But the person become combative and attacked the officer and had to be restrained, police said.
Additional officers were called in to help in restraining the woman who reportedly also fought with paramedics trying to assist, while yelling that she stabbed herself in the neck and has HIV, police said. But despite her claims, police said they saw no evidence of stab wounds to her neck. The person was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
As police searched the home, two dogs were found, one suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck and body. The Windsor Locks animal control officer took the dog to be treated for its injuries where it remains in stable condition, police said.
Police said they are continuing to investigate with criminal charges moving forward.
