Martha Marks, still in mourning and taking care of her mom, is now hoping to find the dogs a loving new home.
HOUSTON — A Houston woman is asking the community for help after losing her husband and her home to a house fire, leaving her alone with their nine dogs.
Moselle Hindle and the pack of dogs were once strangers. She stepped in to help them after being told her neighbor’s childhood friend’s house caught fire.
Martha Marks lost her home and her husband, Joel Bromberg, 65, to that fire.
“We said ‘I love you’ and at 11 o’clock at night the house caught on fire,” Marks said.
On Oct.23, Marks was across town caring for her elderly mother. Firefighters pulled Bromberg from the burning home, but after a week in the ICU, he died.
Not only did she lose her husband, but she was left alone to care for their furry family of nine.
“My husband couldn’t stand the thought of starving animals,” Marks said.
Marks, still in mourning and taking care of her own mom, is now hoping to find the dogs a loving new home.
“I could save the animals, that’s some way I could say to Joel, it’s okay honey, you’re in a better place and the animals made it,” Marks said.
Hindle has been helping take care of the dogs and even started a GoFundMe to help pay for the dogs’ medical treatments and food.
She’s hoping to eventually find them all their new forever homes.
“I urge people, don’t be worried about getting attached, that is the amazing thing in life, right, to love a creature and to receive their support and devotion,” Hindle said.
