A video capturing a dog’s excitement levels before going on a walk has captivated viewers on TikTok.
The clip was shared by @happy.pointers, the TikTok account of two dogs called Willa and Millie, and it has garnered 5.7 million views since being posted on November 14.
A note overlaid on the clip simply says: “Before the walk vs. the walk.” The video shows one of the dogs excitedly jumping up and down in the back of a car while being driven to the location for their walk. The dog is later seen elated, bouncing across a grass field and jumping into a stream before heading back onto a walkway in a forest setting.
A caption shared with the post simply says she’s “just a happy gurlllll.”
The pup’s enthusiasm for her walk is adorable but also beneficial for her health because “dogs who exercise less frequently or less intensely are more likely to be overweight…” noted an August 2022 study published in PLOS One.
According to an April 2022 study published in Frontiers in Public Health, “dog ownership and dog walking have been found to promote physical and mental health in several ways.”
The study also stated that “while most of the health benefits of dog ownership are derived from dog walking, not all owners walk their dogs.”
Citing research done in the U.S., it noted that 30 percent of dog owners were found to have not walked their dogs in the past week.
