PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — Guy Storz and Alex Marshall are the guys behind the hottest dogs in Kitsap County, Harbor Haute Dogs.
These friends and business partners never met a dog they didn’t like. Guy is a veteran, and Alex grew up in a military family in a place that knows dogs.
“I’ve loved hot dogs since we were stationed in Chicago when I was four, and I wanted to bring hot dogs to the West Coast,” Marshall said.
Harbor Haute Dogs got its start in a cart and recently opened a brick and mortar, tucked away in a Port Orchard strip mall. There’s no sign outside, but if you know, you know. People line up for these gourmet dogs.
“Our top seller by far is our Rangoon Dog with a delicious bratwurst made right over here in Tacoma,” said Storz. “So, there’s warm cream cheese, crispy wontons, green onions, then we top it with sweet Thai chili sauce. It’s sweet, it’s savory, it’s absolutely delicious.”
There’s also The Port Orchard Popper with jalapenos and bacon. Then there’s The Goober.
“The Goober. Cincinnati chili, peanut butter, raspberry jam and cheddar cheese,” explained Marshall. There’s a Goober Bell that gets rung for anyone brave enough to order one.
“We see the hot dog is like a palette, like an empty canvas, so we get to do whatever we want with it,” Storz said.
Today Harbor Haute Dogs is creating a special dog for another Kitsap Peninsula business celebrating its 90th birthday. The Kitsap Credit Union Birthday Dog. Harbor Haute Dogs is a credit union customer.
“They came to us actually, and said, ‘You know, we’re looking for a personalized service to help us with our banking needs,’” said Megan Murphy, Director of Business Services for Kitsap Credit Union.
