COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) – A new play space for furry friends is open in Iowa.
The City of Council Bluffs celebrated the opening of the new Valley View Dog Park on Friday. The park — located at 1300 Franklin Avenue — spans just over an acre and has separate off-leash areas for big dogs and small dogs.
Each section also features “logstacles,” which are obstacles made from logs that offer play structures for the dogs to climb and balance. Other amenities in the park include water stations, benches, and shaded areas for owners to relax while their dogs run free in a secure, safe area.
“It’s been a long time coming, and Council Bluffs is proud to open this new dog park at Valley View,” Mayor Matt Walsh said in a press release Friday. “We’ve heard from many residents who wanted outdoor spaces for dogs, and this project reflects our commitment to listening to the community and enhancing recreation.”
The park is open everyday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is the latest in the city’s push to expand and improve their parks and recreation.
“We aimed to create a functional space that meets the needs of our dog-owning community,” said Parks Director Vincent Martorello. “Valley View Dog Park was designed with safety, accessibility, and usability in mind, ensuring that both dogs and their owners have a reliable, well-maintained environment for exercise and socialization.”
