Rellie and Boone, two adult dogs at the Greenville Humane Society, spent months waiting to meet their forever families. And while they waited, they became best friends.”Rellie was over 300 days , and Boone was close to 200,” said Melanie Weeks, behavior consultant at the Greenville Humane Society. “We just started to realize they were kind of inseparable.” Weeks said Rellie was shy and took some time to warm up to people. Boone was deaf. “Boone kind of helped Rellie come out of her shell when they met. It was so cute. They became best friends,” Weeks said. Weeks said the humane society posted pictures and video of Rellie on social media, hoping to help her find her forever family. It worked. She caught the eyes of Graecyn Boyd and Daniel Boone.”She really just needed to be given a fair shot, and I felt like we had the capacity to give a dog a fair shot,” Boyd said. But, what would happen to Rellie’s best friend, Boone?“We actually had been pushing for Rellie to go to a home with another dog or be adopted with another dog because she does open up a lot better with another dog,” Weeks said. Boyd and Boone were open to adopting another dog. The humane society introduced them to several. But just one was the perfect fit. “They brought out Boone, and she was like a totally different dog,” Boyd said.Rellie, now Dakota, and Boone finally found their forever homes together. “I don’t know that I could necessarily say that dogs have best friends, but these two have definitely shown us there is something more there,” Daniel Boone said. Boyd and Boone said they are thankful for the support that the Greenville Humane Society has given them throughout the adoption process. They say they are also thankful for the joy that Boone and Dakota are spreading through some new-found social media fame.
