TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo man was arrested Friday after authorities say he broke into LC4 and stole dogs overnight — and one is still missing.
Court records allege Maurice Carter broke into Lucas County Canine Care and Control by breaking a window, then took two dogs from the building, though a spokesperson for the Lucas County Commissioners said four dogs were stolen. Three of them have since been found: Spider Monkey, Gorilla and Bae.
Lola, a black and tan German Shepherd, is still missing. County officials are asking for help finding her. If you see Lola, call 419-213-2800. You can see a photo of her below, along with an image of the dogs who have been recovered.
“The Board of Lucas County Commissioners and the LC4 leadership commend the Canine Control officers who worked to safely secure three of the missing dogs. We also want to thank the public for their show of support and their patience today,” a statement from the Lucas County Commissioners said.
The break-in caused the facility to close to the public Friday. LC4 intends to open normally on Saturday and extend the three-day stray hold period by one day.
Carter’s motive is unclear at this time. Police have not released additional details. Carter is facing a Breaking and Entering charge, a fifth-degree felony. He’s due back in court on Nov. 18.
