Walking around Downtown Jersey City is like having a front-row seat at one of the most diverse dog shows in the state. For the more social dogs and their owners, a dog-friendly bar may be a lovely spot to spend an evening with a brew and other dog lovers. The Hoboken Girl compiled a list of dog-friendly spots around Chilltown. Read closely, for some places only allow dogs around their outdoor areas and not inside the establishment. Here’s a list of dog-friendly bars to grab a beer, or two, with your four-legged friends in downtown Jersey City.

This is a growing list. If you know of more dog-friendly bars in Jersey City, please email [email protected].

This Hamilton Park neighborhood spot is a favorite for Jersey City residents. Dogs are welcome at Ed + Mary’s, but they must hang out outside the bar because the bar serves food. It’s a nice stop during a walk home to pick up a beer and some water for a four-legged companion.

Lobster Garage | 98 Morris Street

Closer to the water in Paulus Hook is Lobster Garage. It’s a funky spot connected to Light Horse Tavern on Morris Street. Its mostly outdoor seating makes it ideal for humans and their dogs to hang out on a sunny day. Not only are there a ton of drinks on the menu, but there is also a small food menu from the kitchen of Light Horse Tavern. Order a drink at the bar then seat yourself at the different picnic tables or chairs.

Hamilton Pork | 247 10th Street

Hamilton Pork is definitely not pig-friendly, but dogs are welcome. Diners who want to enjoy some BBQ with their dogs must stay at the tables outside and dogs are not allowed in the restaurant. Swing by on Taco Tuesdays to enjoy $9 margaritas and $1 off tacos after enjoying time outside at the nearby dog parks at Hamilton Park.

A Jersey City favorite during the warmer months, Smorgasbar is a great option to hang out with your dog and your dawgs after a long day. The Adirondack chairs set up with the Manhattan skyline as the backdrop and fun music pumping through the speakers make for a fun environment to bring a furry friend. The bar is only open during the summer months, but it’s worth the wait. HG pro tip: Visit during happy hour on Mondays through Fridays from 3PM-7PM for an $8 margarita.

White Star Bar | 230 Brunswick Street

The casual restaurant is a great spot to stop by after playing fetch at nearby Eno Jones Park on Brunswick Street. White Star only allows service animals inside the restaurant, but all dogs are allowed to hang with their owners at the outside tables.

Wurstbar | 516 Jersey Avenue

Wurstbar… more like the Great Bar to hang outside with your dog on Jersey Avenue! Okay, puns aside, it’s an excellent spot for a hot dog with a hot dog. Dogs are only allowed to hang out at the outside tables. The bar has a variety of craft beers and ciders to enjoy along with one of the sausages and killer fries.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
