Dog show in Winston-Salem will support shelters in Western North Carolina
RIGHT. START YOUR MORNING RIGHT? RIGHT. WELCOME BACK TO THE LOCAL VIBE. IT’S 930 ON YOUR FRIDAY MORNING. AND AS YOU CAN SEE BEHIND US, THIS IS A VIEW OF GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN, ONE OF THE MANY SPECTACULAR SIGHTS IN OUR STATE. BUT OF COURSE, THIS AREA STILL RECOVERING AFTER HURRICANE HELENE. AND THIS MORNING WE HAVE BEEN HEARING SOME INCREDIBLE STORIES OF HUMANS HELPING FAMILIES THERE WHO ARE STILL RECOVERING. BUT IT’S NOW TIME TO LEARN HOW DOGS ARE ALSO PLAYING THEIR PART. THE FURNITURE CITY KENNEL CLUB IS HOSTING ITS ANNUAL ALL BREED DOG SHOW THIS WEEKEND IN WINSTON-SALEM TO BENEFIT THOSE IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. WE HAVE ERIC KING, PRESIDENT OF THE FURNITURE CITY KENNEL CLUB, JOINING US LIVE OVER ZOOM. THANKS FOR BEING WITH US. WELL, THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME. YOU’RE WELCOME. OF COURSE. THANK YOU. ERIC, IF YOU COULD JUST TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT FURNITURE CITY KENNEL CLUB AND Y’ALL’S PURPOSE. SO FURNITURE CITY KENNEL CLUB IS BASED OUT OF HIGH POINT. THEY ARE AN AKC. AUBREY CLUB THAT SUPPORTS ALL DOGS AND ACTIVITIES. SO WE HAVE DOG SHOWS. WE ALSO HAVE HOST EVENTS LIKE FAST CATCH WHICH IS LIKE 100 YARD DASH FOR DOGS AND OBEDIENCE AND AGILITY TYPE OF EVENTS. SO IT IS OPEN TO PEOPLE WITH DOGS. THIS WEEKEND IS KIND OF THE CAPSTONE OF ALL OF OUR ACTIVITIES WITH THE DOG SHOW HERE AT THE WINSTON-SALEM FAIRGROUNDS. ALL RIGHT, LET’S TALK ABOUT THE DOG SHOW. WHAT IS GOING TO BE HAPPENING THERE, AND HOW DOES IT WORK? GREAT QUESTION. SO A DOG SHOW IS A IS JUDGED BY JUDGE. WHERE WHO HAS THE BEST DOG ACCORDING TO A BREED STANDARD. SO EACH DOG HAS ITS OWN BREED STANDARD AND WE HAVE JUDGES COME IN. WINNERS FOR THAT. AND AND THAT IS A COMPETITION THAT HAPPENS. THEN IF YOU WIN THE BREED, YOU GO INTO A GROUP STAGE AND THERE’S SEVEN DIFFERENT TYPE OF GROUPS. THERE’S SPORTING HOUND WORKING TOYS, NON-SPORTING AND HERDING GROUPS. SO THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED. SO THIS IS THIS FORMAT IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT YOUR USERS ARE GOING TO SEE THANKSGIVING DAY AFTER THE MACY’S DAY PARADE WITH THE NATIONAL DOG SHOW, EXACTLY THE SAME TYPE OF FORMAT. AND AT THE END OF OUR SHOW ON EACH DAY, WE WILL AWARD A BEST IN SHOW TO THE BEST DOG THAT IS COMING THIS WEEKEND. OKAY, ERIC. SO YOU DO OKAY. I JUST KIND OF GIGGLING ABOUT THESE DOGS HERE BEHIND US IN THE MONITOR. I KNOW, I WONDER HOW THEY WOULD RANK. YEAH, EXACTLY. THE DOG SHOW. ERIC, TELL US WE MENTIONED THAT YOU ARE BENEFITING WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA FOLLOWING HALLOWEEN. SO YOU’RE DOING GOOD WORK. TALK ABOUT THE DONATIONS, WHERE THEY WILL GO AND HOW YOU CHOSE THE NONPROFITS. SO SO EACH EACH YEAR WE HAVE PROCEEDS FROM OUR SHOW GO TO NONPROFITS AS WE ARE A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION. SO WE HAVE A SCHOLARSHIP THAT WE FUND FOR A LOCAL PERSON THAT IS WANTING TO GO TO NC STATE, NC STATE FOR THE VET SCHOOL. WE ALSO SUPPORT THE HIGH POINT WITH WHAT HAPPENED THIS YEAR WITH HALLOWEEN, OUR CLUB DECIDED THAT OUR SHOW IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE CLOSEST SHOWS TO THE TO THE TRILOGY, SO WE DECIDED TO SUPPORT BOTH PEOPLE AND PETS. AND I THINK IT’S IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE ARE IN A TRANSITION PERIOD, GOING FROM FALL WEATHER TO WINTER WEATHER. SO THE NEEDS ARE CHANGING IN TERMS OF WARM BEDS, COATS, MORE TYPE OF FOODS AND THAT. SO WE CHOSE TWO ORGANIZATIONS TO HELP SUPPORT THAT FOR THE PEOPLE. WE CHOSE THE AMERICAN RED CROSS. SO WE HAVE A FLIER AND OUR SHOW WITH QR CODES THAT ALLOW PEOPLE TO DONATE TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS EQUALLY. SO, THE AKC REUNITE HAS BANDS THAT ACTUALLY GO OUT TO DISASTER AREAS AND PROVIDE SUPPORT AS WELL. SO WE ALSO ARE DONATING SOME OF OUR PROCEEDS TO THE AKC REUNITE TO HELP SUPPORT THE PETS, WHICH SOMETIMES GET OVERLOOKED IN TRAGEDIES LIKE THIS. RIGHT? IT’S ALWAYS SO IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THE PETS AND OF COURSE YOU MENTIONED NEEDS CHANGING THE THE COLD WEATHER AGAIN THIS TIME OF YEAR AS WELL. SO WHAT AN IMPORTANT CAUSE. ERIC. WE JUST HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME LEFT FOR ONE LAST QUESTION AND I’M INTERESTED TO HEAR WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE DOG SHOW? I THINK MY FAVORITE PART OF THE DOG SHOW IS MEETING THE PEOPLE WITH THEIR PETS BECAUSE THEY LOVE THEM AND DO THAT, AND YOU GET TO KNOW A LOT OF GREAT PEOPLE WITH GREAT HEARTS. AND SO I’VE DEVELOPED A LOT OF FRIENDSHIPS FROM PEOPLE ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY HOSTING THIS SHOW, BUT ALSO ATTENDING DOG SHOWS AROUND THE COUNTRY AS WELL. THAT’S WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT. THANK YOU. ERIC. YEAH, THANK YOU FOR FOR ANSWERING THAT QUESTION. I WAS CURIOUS ABOUT THAT ONE AS WELL. AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME THIS MORNING. AGAIN, THIS EVENT IS HAPPENING ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AT THE WINSTON-SALEM FAIRGROUNDS EVENT CENTER. STARTS AT 8 A.M. EACH DAY. YOU CAN LEARN MORE ON THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE.
