TOWN OF CALUMET, Wis. (WBAY) – Deputies found 70 dogs in a home with deplorable conditions on Wednesday in Fond du Lac County.
According to the county‘s sheriff’s office, deputies were called to a home in the Town of Calumet for a welfare check. The initial call reported an unpleasant odor coming from the residence.
Deputies attempted contact at the residence and discovered 70 dogs in various stages of health. The home was found to be in deplorable condition, requiring significant attention, the sheriff’s office said.
Ultimately the Sheriff’s Office gained access to the home after being granted a search warrant by a judge. Due to the unsanitary and hazardous conditions in the home, the Calumet Fire Department was requested to assist with hazmat equipment to ensure a safe and thorough removal process.
The sheriff’s office said all of the dogs were safely removed from the residence and turned over to Eastshore Humane Association in Chilton, where they will receive the necessary care and attention to improve their well-being.
The sheriff’s office is investigating and expect to file charges once the investigation is concluded.
Eastshore is a small operation and caring for this many animals will require significant resources.
