Bodycam video shows the officers snatching the three dogs out of the water and bringing them to safety. “Hey, come here, it’s OK, come here,” one of the officers can be heard saying in the clip, which has been viewed more than 150,000 times on Facebook. “The dogs, who appeared tired and frightened, were brought back to dry land and given immediate care,” the Manvel Police Department wrote. “The dogs are now safe and sound with their owner.”
Following the incident, the Manvel Police Department is warning residents to be aware of the bulkhead. “We want to make sure everyone keeps an eye out on their animals as this pond has a bulkhead and not a bank,” the police department wrote.
In response to the rescue, residents raised concerns about the safety of the pond. “Lucky dogs. That is a very bad design for a retention pond,” one person wrote. “That pond should have a bank, not a bulkhead, like many others have mentioned. That bulkhead is a setup for disasters for animals, children, someone who can’t swim and the elderly,” another wrote.
After reading the reactions, Manvel Mayor Dan David—who shared the video on his Facebook page—also commented and said improvements are being made to the retention pond to “ensure we take care of all our Manvel animals.”
