Woman and dog attacked by coyote saved by biker who heard her screams

A biker in Canada recently found himself rescuing a defenseless dog from a coyote.

The biker, who goes by Shady, was traveling through Toronto when he heard a woman screaming and rode in the direction of the sound.

“We were just riding, and I just so happened to be recording, and we heard her desperate screams for help,” Shady told Newsweek. “So we of course went to check it out, and yeah, she was being attacked.”

The video, posted on his Instagram account @shadysurron on October 22, showed the scenes that unfolded after Shady arrived and found a woman distressed by a coyote that was attempting to take her small dog.

At the time of writing, the clip had almost 1 million views and more than 50,000 likes.

As he rushed to the scene, Shady beeped, prompting the coyote to take off. The dog owner can be seen bending over and weeping, while her pup stayed close by.

When Shady realized the coyote was still lurking nearby, as though waiting for its next opportunity to hunt the small dog, he chased the animal across parks and roads until it was out of sight—and far from the woman and her dog.

A camera on his bike recorded the footage, which he captioned in the Instagram post: “Saved a woman and her pup from a coyote attack in Toronto thankfully we were close and were able to save the dogs life. We chased that Mf far! The city needs us heroes.”

“She was very grateful,” Shady told Newsweek, adding that he regularly spent time in the Mississauga and Toronto areas of Canada, where there are “a lot of coyotes.”

Coyotes are common in Toronto, and while they generally do not pose a danger to humans, they can be dangerous to pets, according to the City of Toronto website. They thrive in urban areas because of the food and shelter available.

Residents are urged to keep their dogs on a leash and to never approach a coyote. If a coyote approaches you, you should not run. Instead, make noise to scare it away, the website said.

Instagram users were in awe of the biker’s action, with one viewer writing, “Yall are amazing.”

“She needed to pick that tiny dog up and head straight home as soon as it was scared off,” another wrote, while one commenter said, “Coyote was like aliens chasing me with all these lights.”

Shady told Newsweek: “I’m not no hero. I said that as a joke in my video, but I was just there at the right place at the right time.”

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
