A pup from the United Kingdom made a terrible decision while choosing her napping spot, and then couldn’t cope with the consequences in a viral clip that has left internet users in stitches.
The TikTok video, shared on Tuesday by @bonnieandmaisiethedoxies, shows the long-haired miniature dachshund, Maisie, laying on a fluffy blanket by the edge of the bed, far enough from her owner that she can’t reach her for pets, crying and panting because of this.
“Maisie will choose to sit such a distance away that I can’t reach her, then proceed to cry at me like this because I’m not stroking her,” says layover text in the clip. A caption adds: “The most dramatic of all queens.” Newsweek reached out to @bonnieandmaisiethedoxies for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
All dog owners love their pups unconditionally, but do canines feel the same about us? How can you tell what your pup is feeling about you?
The American Kennel Club (AKC) says that, while dogs can’t explicitly tell us that they love us, science has proof that they actually do.
In explaining the way canines feel about their owners, the AKC quotes a scientific study in which dogs were observed under an MRI machine as they were presented with a variety of scents. The smell of their owner activated an area of their brain known as the “reward center.”
Moreover, when in their owner’s presence, dogs experience higher levels of oxytocin, also known as the love hormone. This means they are happy to be around us, and they feel safe and calm when we are close.
Signs that your dog loves you, according to British animal charity Blue Cross, include relaxed eye contact; tail-wagging when they see you; always choosing to lie near you; licking you a lot; and greeting you excitedly.
The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 331,000 views and more than 54,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Jessie, commented: “Mine also sits on my lap and cries.. we cannot be any closer.”
Hannah Bailey posted: “That noise irritates me so much and they do it all the time.”
Lena wrote: “A weenies whines are so dramatic. Plus there is no way to tell what they want. Today mine was whining just because I didn’t give her my whole pillow to sleep on.”
L. B. added: “Always the victim. Of too much love lol [laugh out loud].”
