SOUTH AMBOY, NJ — A police officer-involved shooting took place in Sayreville Monday, and is currently under investigation, announced the Middlesex County Prosecutor.
The Sayreville Police Department received a 911 distress call at 11:20 a.m. from the Knights Inn, where a person staying there said their child was being attacked by their dogs. Upon their arrival, officers saw the dogs attacking a 10-year-old boy.
In an effort to stop the attack, the officers shot the dogs. In the process, an officer was struck and superficially wounded by a ricochet.

The 10-year-old boy and the Sayreville Police Officer are both at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in stable condition where they are being treated for their injuries.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Stephanie Redline of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3316.
