Woman sends breeder yearly photo of dog, gets response that “wrecked me”

A pet parent who regularly updates her dog breeder with photos broke down after receiving a text back from the breeder about her dog’s mom.

Sarah Foster owns two Cane Corsos from the same breeder. She originally found out about the breeder after falling in love with a pup she used to dog sit. She asked the owners where they got their dog and she knew instantly she would be using the same breeder. She first got Blaze in January 2022.

“I got her at 12 weeks old instead of 8 weeks because the breeder was originally going to keep her and breed her,” Foster told Newsweek. “However, once I saw her I knew she was not meant for that life and went to pick her up the next day.”

By the end of that year, Foster got her second dog from the breeder, Sage, a gray brindle Cane Corso. Sage was the runt of the litter.

As a puppy, she got very sick and struggled to gain weight. It took months for the vets to figure out what to do, but Foster said now she’s fully healthy and full-grown at 75 pounds. During this time, the dog’s breeder kept in contact, wanting to stay up-to-date with what was happening with Sage.

“He was extremely apologetic that we were going through all of that, even though it wasn’t his fault—these things happen,” she said. “But that just explains what kind of person he is.”

Since then, she’s updated the breeder regularly and sends him photos of her dogs every six to 12 months. Foster shared in her October 18 TikTok video (@trisarahhhtops) what his recent response was and wrote in the video that it “wrecked her.”

He told her that Blaze “looks like her mom.” The first picture shows Blaze and the last photo in the slideshow is of Blaze’s mom. The resemblance is uncanny.

“It meant so much to us when he sent the picture of Blaze’s mom,” she said. “I hadn’t seen a picture of her before (only her dad), and I didn’t expect them to look so alike. I know that most dogs of the same breed obviously look alike, but when he sent the picture of her mom, all I could see was Blaze.”

Foster said that Blaze has the same eyes, snout and facial expression as her mother, which brought her to tears. The photo reminded her why she adopted Blaze in the first place—she didn’t want Blaze to go through a life of having puppies taken away from her. She noted that the breeder is “an amazing person” who cares for every dog and granddog, but she didn’t want her dog to be “stuck in that cycle.”

Other dog owners who have adopted through her breeder also keep in contact with him. She’s received photos of her dogs’ littermate siblings fully grown, which she said look like hers.

With over 612,400 views, 153,700 likes and 693 comments on TikTok, the text exchange prompted curiosity in viewers.

“I always sit here and wonder if my dog’s parents remember him or miss him and it makes me cry,” said one user.

A second person wrote: “No, because this has me unwell. That’s her baby.”

A breeder commented: “You are so real for sending a picture each year. I get so sad when my people don’t wanna keep me updated, all I want to know is that our babies are okay.”

Another TikToker wrote: “A pup I fostered had the same exact spot on his forehead just like his mama. It was so stinkin cute.”
