Wanting to see if their littermate dogs remembered each other a few months later, two owners set up an “accidental run-in” at a park.
The two golden retrievers put to the test are seen in an October 29 TikTok video posted by user @goldenbrudders. The owners knew the dogs were brothers but wondered if they would remember each other after going to different homes. That’s when they decided to set a date to have the two dogs meet.
They made the playdate at a park where neither dog had been before. The owner who posted the video said in the comments section that instead of giving clues—like “Who is that?” or “Who are we going to see?”—as they walked in the park, they strolled by pretending not to know each other to see how the dogs would react.
In the clip, both dogs stood tall with curiosity as they slowly walked closer to each other. But one sniff was all it took. Their tails immediately started moving at the speed of light and they twirled around each other with excitement.
It wasn’t long before the dogs started rolling on the ground and playing with each other. Safe to say they knew, almost instantly, they were brothers.
Part of the caption reads: “The bond between Finn and Jet is still as strong as ever and it’s so sweet wholesome each time we watch these two play their little puppy hearts out.”
While golden retrievers are known to be affectionate and want to befriend everyone and anything, one of the owners is convinced these two knew they were brothers. The interaction was different from any other play session with a dog. The owner said in the comments: “When you know you know.”
Viewers quickly fell head over heels, and the clip has over 1.6 million views and 189,100 likes on TikTok as of Monday.
“So sweet! Watched over and over. I hope lots of play dates and even sleepovers for these brothers,” said one viewer. A second echoed: “Stop this is so precious!”
Another pointed out: “Love how you emphasized ‘We did not tell them!’ because dogs are so smart lmao this was indeed an accident.”
Others shared stories of similar situations: “We had our dog and his littermate meet up and they were on their hind legs hugging. You could tell they knew.”
