A dog’s heartwarming greeting for her owner has melted hearts across the internet, amassing hundreds of thousands of views.
Beedo Mady (@beedomady82) shared footage of his Chihuahua’s overjoyed reaction to his return in a September video that has racked up more than 103,100 likes and over 548,200 views.
“The story of Chippie is she greets me every day when coming back from work or outside,” Mady told Newsweek.
In the clip, Mady walks through the door, and Chippie immediately rolls onto her back, pleading for belly rubs. She then scurries around in circles, her tail wagging with excitement, and grunts happily at her owner’s presence.
“It was a beautiful greeting, but I never expected that to get thousands of views!” Mady said.
Chippie isn’t only affectionate upon Mady’s return; she also loves to snuggle up next to him and burrow under a blanket for a cozy nap, her owner added.
Trusted Housesitters experts say that dogs are wired to greet their owners with enthusiasm, partly because of their social nature and attachment to human companions.
A dog’s excitement when seeing their owner may stem from sensory stimulation—sights, sounds, and especially smells that remind them of the close bond they share.
During such reunions, their brains release 130 percent more oxytocin, the “love” hormone, when they look in their owner’s eyes, in comparison with other objects.
This surge of joy can lead to jumping, tail-wagging, or even rolling over, as Chippie does.
Viewers couldn’t get enough of the adorable reunion, although some expressed concern about Chippie being left alone in the dark.
“He’s so sweet!!! How long was he in the dark apartment alone?” asked one user, Jeff.
Mady reassured viewers, sharing that Chippie is never left alone for more than an hour.
Dogs are social animals, and most experts recommend they not be left alone for longer than four to six hours at a time.
Brookhaven Animal Hospital experts say that puppies and more active or anxious breeds may need even shorter periods alone to prevent boredom or stress. In Chippie’s case, Mady is careful to keep her absences brief, ensuring the pet has companionship, mental stimulation, and space to move freely.
Fans flooded the comments, charmed by the display of pure affection.
“We don’t deserve dogs,” wrote Olivia.
“My dog does this and starts peeing everywhere,” posted Nicole Labelle.
“Omg [oh my God], I can’t stand the cuteness; I’m gonna explode! The sheer love is adorable,” added Kate.
