I decided to go grouse hunting but when I opened the door, gun in hand I got sprinkled on. I instantly became the weatherman. In today’s world we all feel we can do a better job predicting the weather than the meteorologist. They just have to be right half the time and they still get paid. Time to check the weather app on the phone. It looked like it would miss me so I headed out to the new kennel I just built with connecting inside and outside runs. Somehow the dogs knew something fun was up.
It doesn’t take much to talk my dogs into going hunting. All they have to do is spot me with my shotgun in hand or see that the dog trailer hooked up to the Jeep. Being someone who has raised and trained more dogs than I can count over 50 years, I’m in a special place right now. Most people own just one dog at a time. If your dog is older each trip is special; a run down memory lane. You just never know when it could all end. When it does, tears are shed. You lose a friend, a family member. Middle aged dogs are in their prime. It’s like you have an all pro QB on your team. Each trip is the Super Bowl. If you have a young dog you’re living with expectations of things to come, the good years are just ahead.
