Annoyed about the early-morning wake-up call, one dog took matters into his own paws and thought if he was up everyone else in the apartment complex should be awake too.
As Ernie the Labrador returned from his morning walk, he noticed no one else living in the apartment complex was out and about, according to an October 19 TikTok video posted to the account @.adamsmegan. Having already conducted his business, he found a stick and was on his way home, thinking it was time for everyone else to start the day. That’s when he jumped into action.
He walked as close as possible to a stair railing, with his stick protruding from his mouth. Ernie calculated the distance to be just enough for the stick to touch the railing. As he continued walking, the stick hit against the railing, making clanging sounds loud enough to be heard across the apartment complex.
Ernie slowly made his way up the stairs with a little sass in his walk, still ensuring his stick hit every support of the railing. He didn’t want to slack off on the job; everyone relied on his wake-up call.
The caption reads: “Sound the alarms!”
Ernie had proclaimed himself the apartment complex’s alarm clock. It’s his job to get everyone up on time, for work or school. At least, that’s what he thinks he needs to do. And because dogs are creatures of habit, it has become his daily routine.
The owner showed Ernie performing his job again in a follow-up video. The text on the clip reads: “Ernie is taking his job as the neighborhood alarm clock very seriously.” And he does it happily every time, with laser focus and a wagging tail.
Newsweek reached out to @.adamsmegan via TikTok for additional information.
‘Cutest Alarm Clock’
The clip had over 1.1 million views, 171,100 likes and 538 comments as of Thursday, and viewers couldn’t stop laughing.
Several people called the dog “the cutest alarm clock,” while someone else wrote what Ernie was likely thinking: “Hear ye, hear ye…bring out ye treats.”
One person said: “The fact that he purposely walked closer to the railings so it would make that noise lol!”
Another added: “He’s smart alright!!!! & He’s proud of himself… walking with his head held up high.”
