4 dogs exposed to rabid skunk in Laurens County

WARE SHOALS, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) said a skunk in Laurens County has tested positive for rabies and four dogs were exposed.

Officials said the skunk was found near Graden Road and Calf Barn Road in Ware Shoals. The infected animal was setn to DPH’s lab for testing on Friday, Oct. 25.

The four dogs that were exposed will be quarantined as required by the South Carolina Rabies Control Act.

If anyone believes they have been exposed, their pets have been exposed or someone they know has been exposed to rabies they should call DPH’s office at 803-896-4680 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
