Cheetah companion dogs Moose, Remus and Daisy retire from Cincinnati Zoo

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Moose, Remus and Daisy, the beloved cheetah companion dogs at the Cincinnati Zoo, have retired after years of dedicated service. The dogs have been integral to the zoo’s program, each paired with a cheetah cub to be raised as surrogate siblings.

The zoo announced that all three dogs will be adopted by zoo staff members, allowing them to enjoy a well-deserved retirement as pets. Typically, cheetahs only require their canine companions until they reach maturity at around two years old, after which they prefer solitude, said zoo officials.

Moose, known for his intelligence and quick learning, was paired with a cheetah cub named Donni from Wildlife Safari in Oregon. Moose and Donni spent a long time together, even continuing to have sleepovers when they were both 5 years old. Moose also gained fame by appearing in the Disney+ show “It’s A Dog’s Life,” where he met the actor who voices Goofy and Pluto.

Remus, adopted from a local shelter, quickly became a favorite with his charming personality. “From day one, we knew he had the best personality,” said the zoo. Remus was featured in the opening title of “It’s a Dog’s Life” and was known for his playful interactions with cheetah Kris and newcomer Rozi.

Daisy, another shelter adoption, was paired with Rozi, a solo cub from Wildlife Safari. The zoo said Daisy’s energetic nature and intelligence made her a star in the zoo’s cheetah encounters, particularly with her frisbee routine.

The zoo celebrated the dogs’ contributions and highlighted their journeys as they transition to their new lives at their “Retirement Pawty” Sunday afternoon.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
