2-Legged Dog, Whose Spinal Cord Was Severed When a Table Fell on Him, Goes on Adventure Photoshoot to Help Get Adopted

A cute canine with special needs is on the hunt for a best friend.

Rescue dog Wheelber’s journey toward adoption just got a boost from The Dog Breath Foundation, which helps dogs find forever homes.

As part of the nonprofit foundation’s Greatest Adventure Tour, founder and photographer Kaylee Greer took Wheelber on an outdoor adventure to snap new photos of him to use on his bio page to attract a dog parent.

Now, the 2-year-old black retriever/lab mix — whose spinal cord was severed when a marble table fell on him as a puppy — is ready more than ever to get adopted from the Scoot for the Stars rescue.

“He now lives his life on two legs and is one of the happiest, most loving dogs,” Scoot for the Stars, which specializes in helping dogs with special needs find homes, wrote on Instagram. “@dogbreathphotography did an incredible job capturing his happy, adventurous, loving and pure spirit.”

As seen in Greer’s photoshoot snaps shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Wheelbur is all smiles while walking around with help from a wheelchair.

“Wheelbur gets around amazingly in his @walkinpets wheelchair and he can carry himself around on his front legs without wheels when he is at home,” the rescue organization continued.

“He is a highly active dog who loves having something to do. He has lived with cats and dogs of all sizes, is [up-to-date] on all vaccines, and is neutered,” Scoot for the Stars added of Wheelbur. “He will go to his forever home with wheels and all of his supplies and goodies.”

Although Scoot for the Stars is based in Nevada, Wheelbur is “adoptable anywhere in the [United States]” on the rescue’s website. Other dogs with mobility issues are also available to foster and adopt there.

Meanwhile, Greer’s nine-month road trip for The Greatest Adventure Tour will continue through 2025, not only resulting in dogs finding their forever homes, but also a YouTube series highlighting some of the dogs helped as well as a retrospective book featuring stories from the trip.

Greer also partnered with Freshpet on The Greatest Adventure Tour, which will include Greer teaching rescue and shelter staff members how to take better photos to help attract more adoptions.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
